The Transaction ID was not on my bingo card for the most discussed topic to end the summer. I have thoughts that extend beyond the specific aspects of that discussion that I hope to share with you when we launch our subscription product, but suffice it to say this: we need to come together like never before. Much like how DSPs endure bid jamming, publishers are getting jammed with information overload, and the noise-to-signal ratio isn’t good.
My recommendation is if you’re a publisher is to join us in Savannah and let’s hash out a plan:
We’ve begun working with registered pubs and those who have shown interest in attending to shape our collective agenda. It’s beneficial that some of the major DPS, a buying platform, and an AI analytics platform are joining us. Agenda details below.
ALERT: Camp.Fire: Community call this Wednesday at 1:30 ET to discuss ROAD - a proposal to solve some of the deduplication issues faced in programmatic. This webinar is open to all. Please review the materials posted here before the call and send questions to James at js@js.consulting.
Your reading checklist:
- Agents at work: Harnessing AI for intelligent post-sales ops with Boostr’s Patrick O’Leary
- Partnerships in motion: Jasper Liu (DailyMail) & Tamir Shub (IntentIQ) share their wins
Base.Camp Savannah is just over a month away!
Publishers already confirmed for Savannah include People Inc., Gannett, Cox Automotive, Bloomberg, Golf.com, New York Post, The Weather Company, PGA TOUR, The New York Times, NASCAR, LoveToKnow Media, Ziff Davis, Tripadvisor, Graham Media, Edmunds.com, FanDuel Sports, and Chegg.
And here is just a small snapshot of our expansive agenda:
- Why aren’t we closing more deals with the data we already have? The data is clean. The tech is in place. So why isn’t the revenue showing up? Let’s talk about the disconnect between what we’ve built and what sales can actually sell.
- How do we change the way we work without breaking everything? Publishers know they need to change. But how? We’ll get into how teams are restructuring, retraining, and rethinking how they operate from the inside out.
- Is the homepage still worth the effort? It is when it’s working. This session will unpack how editorial, product, and revenue teams are treating the homepage like a growth engine again, and why it’s paying off.
- Are publishers seeing any real wins right now? Yes, they are. And we’ll have a lineup of powerful case studies where you’ll hear directly from those publishers on what’s working and what they’ve learned.
- What does real transformation look like (and why is it never just the tech)? New platforms don’t fix broken processes. This session focuses on how culture, workflows, and internal alignment drive real change, tech just follows.
We’re almost there. Join us in Savannah to dig into the big questions, share what’s working, fix what’s not, and leave with a plan you can put into motion the very next day.
Time is running out for Digital Day Camp early bird pricing
Digital Day Camp is returning Toronto on October 22, 2025, the only event of its kind for Canadian digital media leaders. Together, we’ll discuss the questions that are keeping us all up at night, including:
- When will good behaviour with privacy and data governance pay off?
- Can direct-sold strategies still thrive alongside programmatic dominance?
- How do changing patterns of traffic impact revenue plans, and how do we respond?
- And what does it take to make data-driven approaches actually pay off?
- Where should we really be placing our bets for 2026?
- What role will agentic advertising play in redefining the market?
- How do we bring Gen Z into our world, or how do we survive in theirs?
- How do we raise the bar for CTV ad quality?
Leaders from Pelmorex, Narcity Media Group, Better Collective, and Kobayashi + Zeitguys (just to name a few) are already signed up to join us. Now, it’s your turn. Get on the list today, while early bird registration for Digital Day Camp is still open!
The Base.Camp Lisbon agenda is growing…
Leaders from Tripadvisor, Wall Street Journal, Kinective Media℠ by United Airlines, The Weather Company, Publisher Collective, Telegraph Media Group, Livenation, City Digital Oy, and Condé Nast are already confirmed.
And here’s a preview of the problems we’ll be solving together:
- How do we actually get more from our data? Every publisher has a different setup, but nobody’s finished. This is aboutlearning from what others are doing and walking out with something youcan put into motion.
- Is agentic-traded advertising the future or just a distraction? Let’s stop trying to predict what’s coming and focus on what we can prepare for. When the landscape shifts, knowing what’s in your control makes all the difference.
- Why does publisher quality still take a backseat? We may not be able to change what buyers want overnight, but we can do a better job telling our story and making sure it lands.
- What will ad ops look like in five years? The role isn’t going away. But it is going to change. This conversation is about how we shape the future of the work we already own.
- Can direct-sold compete with programmatic at scale? If it can’t, we’ve got a problem. This session focuses on the workflows, tools, and incentives needed to make direct-sold more than just a legacy channel.
If you’re interested in joining us, now is the time to raise your hand.
