First, Happy Mother’s Day if you are a mother or have a mother, and you’re among the 50% of people globally who celebrate it on the 2nd Sunday of May. If you don’t have a mother, welcome, bot! I’m not sure you will like this week’s newsletter.

I feel great about how Navigator New York turned out. I’m over the moon about how the whole Beeler.Tech team embraced the challenge of Navigator and also assisted with the SPO Summit, which was excellent. If you can, please ensure they know how well they did.

After my opening where I said, “there is nothing left but hard work,” I felt that something was missing. It was only at the reception of the SPO Summit when someone used the word I was looking for: joy. They were referring to being a part of the Beeler.Tech community, and while there are other ways to get the information, there was a sense of joy in being part of something.

So I amend my comments about the future of publishing: it will not just be powered by trust and human connection. It will include service to others and the joy that brings.

The world presented to us by AI is sterile and beige. Yes, I’ve seen the amazing imagery and experiences that AI can create. It is all sleight of hand. It’s not a real relationship, and it’s our job as publishers to be as human as we can. Yes, tell me the news, but make me feel it. Feel the joy of informing others. If you can find joy in helping to bring human connection to others, I think you’re going to do just fine.

Last week, we got the right people in the room and got past the usual surface-level conversations. We talked about attribution, identity, AI, data strategy, CTV, deal IDs, brand safety, and what happens when we stop pretending the answers are simple.

A full recap is coming soon. But in the meantime, the conversations aren’t over.

Join us for a post-Navigator Camp•Fire on May 14 at 12:00 p.m. ET.

If you were at Navigator, bring your takeaways, your lingering questions, and whatever’s still stuck in your head. If you didn’t attend last week, hear what you missed. Register for Camp•Fire. Note: Camp•Fire is for publishers and partners.

Also, if you haven’t seen the news, our friends at OAO are now adops.com. But it’s not just a domain change. It’s a signal about where this industry is headed, and how all of us need to rethink how we view what we do. And where we might want it to go.  Read my exclusive conversation with adops.com CEO Craig Leshen.

P.S. If you're watching this from across the pond and thinking, “I wish I was in that room,” just wait. Navigator London is June 10. More info below.

We are less than one month to Navigator London at Glaziers Hall on 10 June. We’ve just added more sessions, and they hit squarely in the “finally, we’re talking about it” category:

  • Adam Leslie, Director of Product, Commercial at Mail Metro Media, will lead a session on surviving identity 2.0. This one’s for anyone still navigating fragmented standards and conflicting signals. It’s not about theory. It’s about what’s actually working when identity gets complicated.
  • James Harris (WPP) and Fern Potter (Multilocal) will be asking whether walled gardens are a strategic advantage or dead end. It starts with curation, but goes way deeper… into what happens when innovation hits the limits of scale.
  • Tom Bowman (CoLab Media) and James Florence (Immediate Media) will tackle what sustainability actually looks like in practice. When it’s not just a slide in a pitch deck, but something teams are embedding into operations and holding themselves accountable to.

The agenda is live and still evolving. But this is not a wait-and-see event.

Space is limited. The sooner you raise your hand, the sooner you can help shape the conversations we need to be having, and make sure you’re in them.

June 4 is a big day. You don’t want to miss it.

First, you’ve got the IAB Tech Lab Summit during the day.

Then, that night, it’s time for Beeler•BASH. Let’s make Bash BASH, folks!

Beeler•BASH is the one night where AdOps and publisher folks like you get to come together off the clock. No keynotes. No panels. No sales pitches. You don’t need to prep. You just need to show up. The drinks, music, food, and camaraderie will all be waiting for you.

Want in? Here’s what you do:

  1. Register for the IAB Tech Lab Summit 2025 and save 25% with our discount code: BeelerSummit.
  2. Want an invite to Beeler•BASH? Publishers, brands, agencies—it’s free, but space is limited. Raise your hand now.

Fall is coming, and the calendar’s already filling up.

Somehow we’re nearly halfway through the year, which means it won’t be long before we’re talking about Q4 planning. And based on what’s already on the calendar, we’ve got a lot to talk about.

  • Base•Camp Savannah kicks off October 5. This one’s for the operators, leaders, and realists who want to go deeper into the strategic conversations we need to be having as an industry.
  • Digital Day Camp returns to Toronto on October 22, because we couldn’t wait until next year to have the right discussions. One working day. All Canadian media leaders. No panels, no posturing, just shared context, honest problem solving, and real forward motion.
  • Then we wrap the season in Portugal with Base•Camp Lisbon, November 3-5. A more intimate format with a strong European publisher presence. Fewer people. Bigger conversations.

If you’re interested in joining us, the sooner you raise your hand, the better. Early signals help us build these experiences around the people who need to be in the conversation.

More updates to come.
