“Whenever there is war, no one truly has peace”. I looked to give attribution to this quote, but apparently I made it up (correct me if you find differently.) Members of our community in several regions around the world do not have peace today, and it’s incumbent on us all to do what we can to support them by any means at our disposal. I talk about the future of publishing being built around human connection and trust, as if those concepts only apply to our industry. They do not. They are what binds us together as a society. In some areas, both regional and theoretical, we’ve lost our ability to connect and to trust. Let’s look to repair it throughout our lives and through our work.

Our job is to bring the community together and celebrate that we, in fact, have a community. It’s hard to do so when members of our community are hurting or are in danger. We hope that the various conflicts are resolved quickly. In the meantime, we will share what we are working on, but please do not think we aren’t thinking about our friends and colleagues who cannot focus on the next business-related event because more pressing issues are impacting their lives. We’re with you - all of you.

Last week’s sold out Navigator London event is why we do what we do. For one day, we brought publishers, partners, and operators together for the kinds of conversations this industry needs more of: honest, grounding, and forward-facing.

We talked about AI adoption (not next year, but now), how identity is shifting, why first-party data alone isn’t enough, and what it means to rebuild trust with buyers. We looked at the real risks behind ID bridging, the practical power of DEI, and how strategic clarity can’t come at the cost of operational agility.

One thing’s clear, the work ahead won’t be easy. But no one in that room in London showed up for easy. For those of you who joined us, thank you for being a part of this important work. More of a recap to come soon!

If you are feeling a bit of FOMO from Navigator NYC and Navigator London, don’t worry. There’s still plenty of work to be done, and three big opportunities this fall to get involved. Because the second half of the year is when the pressure turns up on all of us to make smart decisions.

So, if you’re thinking about where to invest your time, attention, and leadership this fall, here are the events you need to know about:

  • Base•Camp Savannah kicks off October 5. If you’ve been to Base•Camp, you know the deal: sleeves rolled up, honest takes, and a group of people ready to work through the challenges we face as an industry, not just rehash what’s broken.
  • Digital Day Camp returns to Toronto on October 22. One day. One room. Shared ground with Canada’s digital media leaders. Registration is open. If you’ve been looking for a place to cut the spin and get clarity, this is it.
  • Base•Camp Lisbon closes out the season November 2-5. We’re bringing the magic of Base•Camp to Europe. Bring your context, your open questions, and your willingness to collaborate.

Think one of these events is the right fit? Tell us now. The earlier we hear from you, the better.

Hot Off the Presses!

Roy Shkedi, founder and CEO of Intent IQ, has made a name for himself in our industry. If you’ve been anywhere near identity over the past decade, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of him. That’s not by accident.

Recently, I sat down with Roy for an exclusive conversation. We discussed why cookie-based thinking is holding publishers back, how identity actually works in a mixed-consent world, and what performance means when half of your audience is invisible.

Read my interview with Roy here. And consider this a must-read, because the future of identity isn’t going to be decided by press releases or panels. It’s going to be decided by whether the tech actually works when no one is watching.
