I am terrible at impressions. My Sean Connery is the worst. My Christopher Walken is somehow the opposite of Christopher Walken. Yeah, I can do a good Chris Farley - but that’s just accentuating my neck fat and yelling.
But, if I could do one impression right now it would be Al Pacino in Every Given Sunday. My message to publishers right now is to fight for every inch. In an industry of clawbacks, it’s time to claw back some of our own control. You can’t do it alone. You need to be aligned with other publishers and work with partners who build your business, not build off it.
The to-do list is long and not much on the list is easy to accomplish. “Figure out how to tap into Retail Media Networks (when you aren’t one)”, “Make sure the myriad of demand partners in your header aren’t putting you at risk for privacy non-compliance and aren’t ripping you off while simultaneously helping you hit a new CPM goal that used to be well below your old floors.”
Team, we need to work together and help make progress on ALL the things. Fight for every inch. I spent the weekend thinking through the Base•Camp Red Rock Canyon agenda. The site will be updated this week with a more complete picture, but I’ll throw out some conversations I think we need to have:
- Is My Marriage to My SSP in Trouble?
- You Say My Inventory is Worthless. I Beg to Differ.
- Let’s Compare Stacks (simmer down, you know what I mean)
- New Revenue Will Come in Smaller Packages. How do we handle it?
So many more things to discuss at Base•Camp…together…as a team. GO! GO! GO SIGN UP!
Where in the world is Rob this week?
My panel: Bridging the Gaps: Achieving Interoperability in a Fragmented Ecosystem is Tuesday morning!
Then it’s off to London:
I feel like this event has taken over LinkedIn. After Tom and I explained our intended audience, I think people have realized this is not a conversation that is being had anywhere else, and by people who aren’t typically in the same room. The money follows the tech. The tech follows the money. Get yourself registered! Register Here Today!
