December 8, 2025: Keynote Safari

I’m going to come clean and admit I was going to go in a completely different direction for today’s newsletter but woke up this morning thinking about keynote speakers. One thing I enjoy and take great pride in is bringing people outside our little ecosystem to shake up our thinking.

A second admission: I really should be sharing examples of who exemplifies what I’m talking about, but I’m feeling lazy. It might be the BBQ I ate last night here in San Antonio (I’m doing recon for Base.Camp), but I can’t quite write with enough eloquentness to do those keynotes justice.

But here’s my promise: if y’all (look at me slip right into being in the South) share with me people outside our world who you think could bring something to the conversation, I’ll share the list plus recap some of our greatest hits. Deal? Seriously, who comes to mind?

Quick aside: when you hunt for keynotes, speaker bureaus add you to their mailing lists. This week I was informed Justin Trudeau is available. Anyone want to sponsor a keynote session? Let’s start the bidding at $100,000…

Last ask (for today): our last two U.S. Base.Camps have had amazing Wednesday sessions, first with the SSPs and then with the buying platforms. I’m thinking about what we should do this year. I’m open to anyone’s opinion, but for those who attended, do we go back to the SSPs or bring in a different group? What would be the most meaningful conversation for you?

Start your week off strong with a few essential reads from us and our partners:

  • Putting creative firepower back in the hands of publishers

The digital advertising world isn’t exactly basking in calm waters right now. Reorgs, leaner teams, and a never-ending demand for new ad formats, more personalization, and higher performance have left AdOps andCreative teams firefighting. As everyone scrambles to deliver “what’s next,” the gap between creative ambition and available resources only widens. With Colleen Tully of Clipcentric.

  • Absorb, unite, and outsource: publisher consolidation strategies for 2026

Publishers have had a rough run over the past 12 months and it’s not getting any easier. Display revenues are under pressure, platforms keep shifting the rules, and clickless search, such as AI Overviews (AIO), and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), are rewiring how people discover content. Traditional monetization strategies aren't pulling their weight any more. An exclusive conversation with Michael Edwards of adops.com.

  • Data Integrity Becomes A New Measure for Marketers

Compliant Global is highlighted in this AdExchanger article. Compliant independently verifies and measures whether publishers are adhering to responsible data practices and industry standards, including privacy compliance. We recommend publishers learn what their scores are from the Brand Safety Institute or Compliant.

  • From crawling to collaboration: How publishers can win in the clickless era

The shift is already here. When AI summaries and answer engines sit between users and source sites, clicks fall, sessions shrink, and the value exchange around publisher content erodes. In our recent Camp.Fire session, rev ops leader Scott Messer framed the moment clearly. “This is the crawling to collaboration phase.” This is a transition most publishers still have not operationalized. So where do publishers start?

Here’s the latest news, and yes, it’s all true:

  • NEW 2026 EVENT: AI Publisher Response, May 6, 2026 (NYC)

AI Publisher Response is a working session built for publisher teams who want a clear, practical path through the noise of AI. This event brings publishers together to focus on the questions that actually matter to you: what should be automated, what must stay human, how your org should evolve, and how you protect your content and revenue in a market moving faster than your resources.
