I went to see the Eagles at the Sphere on Friday. I can’t even describe the experience. I loved it. I highly recommend it and can’t wait for my next opportunity. Sitting next to me was the mother of Cody Johnson, the country music star. She’s a prim and proper Texas-raised, gospel-loving woman. It was her first time in Las Vegas, and she was none too impressed… except by the things that totally impressed her. She loved the Sphere, the venue where her son played – the list goes on. But ask her about Vegas overall; she couldn’t wait to get out.

Like it or not, the Internet is Las Vegas. For all of you who just had a visceral reaction to that statement, process it again, and you’ll know I’m right. That doesn’t mean you have to embrace that fact. I simply want you to understand that in and around amazing user experiences, we’ve pimped out every inch to the highest bidder.

Sheila Johnson is your user. She’s trying only to experience what she’s interested in and wants the rest to disappear. We will have to do a lot more work to convince her that the cost of admission is all the distractions, or we will have to separate ourselves from the noise.

I can go on with the analogies, and perhaps I will in March at Base•Camp. The venue brings the convenience of getting to Las Vegas without being near the strip. I'm not going to lie - it’s got some Vegas…but not too much Vegas. I’m excited to have the event in Red Rock Canyon.
