Quick definition: The adjacent possible refers to the set of innovations, ideas, or actions that are achievable based on current knowledge, technology, and conditions—it’s what becomes possible next. It highlights how progress unfolds step by step, with each breakthrough expanding the frontier of what can come next. It’s a term coined in the 1990s, well before ad tech decided we needed another large conference.
This theory explains how two individuals from different locations independently worked on the invention of the telephone, the lightbulb, or airplanes simultaneously. The environment had been conducive to major innovations, and numerous people recognized possibilities that had previously been unattainable.
Our industry is due for the next wave of significant innovation. Something big should be coming along. I think that’s what people hope the recent ruling against Google will bring about, but I think the impact of that is too far in the future. I think those who are waiting to see how that plays out will be left behind.
This is especially true for publishers. We need to be in our laboratories right now, putting together what we know and building something new.
This laboratory approach is what we aim to incorporate into our upcoming Navigator events. People are trying to solve the publisher profitability puzzle, and it’s not just one invention that’ll solve it.
So yes, I’ll be at Possible, and I’ll even be adjacent to Possible (at side events), but at Navigator NYC and London, we’re going to explore what is adjacent possible.
Navigator NYC is almost here (May 6)!
And the agenda keeps expanding. New sessions, new angles, same goal—let’s turn hard questions into actual next steps.
Here’s a small snapshot of some of the questions we’ll be tackling:
- What does an identity strategy look like when cookies aren’t the benchmark? With no universal ID delivering at scale, publishers have to work with what they can prove. This session shares evidence-based approaches and real test results.
- Can you prove your content was made by a human, and why does it matter? AI sludge is already in the marketplace. If quality content is your edge, this session explores how to defend it, signal it, and prove it matters.
- How do we clean up CTV’s fraud problem before it gets worse? It’s not just about identifying bad actors. This session focuses on what legitimate publishers and platforms can do to get recognized as the real deal.
- Is your ad tech ready for life after cookies? Dotdash Meredith’s test results are in. This deep dive into Privacy Sandbox shows what’s possible (and what’s still missing) when third-party data disappears.
- Are you leaving revenue on the table by keeping ad tech and martech separate? This session shows how aligning growth strategies across teams leads to more than just better advertising. It builds sustainable revenue.

Navigator London (June 10) is also gaining momentum in a big way
The Navigator London agenda isn’t getting longer. It’s getting sharper.
Every session is built to solve something. We’re bringing the right people together to answer the questions that actually shape the work:
- Can publishers lead the next wave of attribution? What if publishers didn’t just react to measurement shifts, but helped redefine them? This session digs into the role they could play in driving cleaner, more useful outcomes.
- What do smaller publishers know that others don’t? Scale isn’t everything. This session looks at the advantage smaller publishers have, and why it matters more now than ever.
- Is it time to rethink how we talk about AI? AI is everywhere. This keynote explores what that means for publishing, what happens next, and why urgency is no longer optional.
- What will it take to rebuild value in traffic? Search and social aren’t the free ride they used to be. This session looks at how to adapt, shift priorities, and find new value in audience strategies.
- What does sustainability actually look like for media? It’s not just about optics. This session looks at where real operational change is happening, and what it means for both revenue and responsibility.

It’s the annual exhale for the AdOps community, and it’s on June 4 in New York City. There’s no agenda. You don’t have to collaborate. You don’t have to join a breakout group. You don’t need to “prepare” for this. You don’t need to “bring your A-game.” But if you do want to talk shop, you’ll be surrounded by the sharpest minds in the space, off-the-clock and unfiltered.
So, yeah. We throw this party for us—for you. Not because it drives leads. Not because someone paid us to. Because no one else does, and you deserve it.

P.S. This is for publishers only, folks.
